SAS Nagar, October 8 (satish kumar puppy):-Unique Disability ID Card (UDID Card) is being issued to Persons With Disabilities(PWDs) irrespective of percentage of disability, informed Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan.
It a single document for identification and verification of a disabled person to access various benefits. The card contains all necessary details about a disabled person and bypasses the need for carrying multiple documents.
“At present the disability certificates of one state are not recognized in the other but the UDID Cards are acceptable pan India. They would help the differently-abled tide over the problems that they face at railway counters or even to avail any benefit at educational institutions. The card has a unique number which helps concerned authorities to access the details”, informed Dayalan.
As of now 4048 UDID Cards have been generated in the district and to reach-out to maximum PWDs district administration has sought data of pensioners from the banks and has also directed the schools to facilitate UDID card generation of the physically challenged students.
Going a step further, we are organizing a special 14 day Disability Assessment Camp. Earlier, the assessment was done twice a week but now we are going ahead on Mission mode and will conduct it in all government hospitals from Oct 12 to Oct 25, informed Deputy Commissioner and made an appeal to all concerned to come forward for assessment and have the UDIDs made.
Deputy Commissioner said that UDID cards facilitate availability of real time data about the disabled persons to the government to act upon. So, card holders can immediately avail benefits of schemes launched by the State/Central Government and other agencies for PwD.
Pertinently, the disability related data does not get duplicated as the computer system can ensure uniqueness of all the data related with disabled individuals.
UDID cards make it easy to identify the extent of person’s disability. A person with less than 40% disability would have a card with a white stripe, 40 to 80% would have a card with yellow stripe and above 80% card with a blue stripe.
