SAD TO BRING PRIVILEGE MOTION AGAINST CONG GOVERNMENT FOR NOT FORWARDING TO DELHI THE HOUSE RESOLUTION AGAINST BILLS
SAD TO BRING RESOLUTION TO ASK AMARINDER TO BLOCK CENTER’S ACTS IN PUNJAB
CAPTAIN PLAYING ‘FRIENDLY MATCH’ WITH CENTER TO MISLEAD FARMERS:
Amritsar/September 29 (wishavwarta):- Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia today asked Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to call a special session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha immediately to abrogate the state APMC Act and declare the entire state as a Principal Market Area.
“If Amarinder doesn’t heed our demand, which is in fact the demand of farmers, then SAD will gherao his residence,” declared Mr Majithia while demanding that FCI as well as Adani be brought under APMC.
The Akali leader lashed out against Capt Amarinder for “playing a friendly match with those in the Union Government to befool and mislead the Punjab farmers with false bluster even as refuses to do anything concrete to block the implementation of the three anti-farmer Acts in the state.”
Mr Majithia also declared that “Captain Amarinder and those in the Union Government were clearly in league to take the sting out of the farmers’ agitation through a well-crafted theater of hypocrisy. It is shocking that the unanimous Vidhan Sabha Resolution against center’s Bills is still gathering dust in the office of the Chief Secretary. Do you think any officer can have the courage to defy the House if he did not have the Chief Minister’s instructions to do so? This Resolution was adopted at a specially convened session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha. And it had to be sent to Parliament to urge Members there to listen to the farmers and not pass the Bills. But Bills have become Acts but the Resolution is still lying in Chandigarh” said Mr Majithia addressing newspersons at Amritsar this afternoon.
Mr Majithia said that it was clear now that the House Resolution had been blocked at the instance of those in the Union Government.”We supported the Resolution and opposed Center’s anti-farmer Bills even while we were a part of the Government while Amarinder pretends to be anti-center but did exactly what powers in Delhi wanted him to do. This is the first instance in history of a government defying the House so brazenly”.
Mr Majithia said that the SAD would move a privilege motion against the ruling party for “humiliating the sacred temple of democracy which represents the will of the people of Punjab. Amarinder has insulted not just the House but the people whom the House represents, including and especially the farmers.” We would also summon the guilty Officer to the Vidhan Sabha to explain this crime,” said the Akali leader
The Akali leader said that the SAD would also bring a motion to ask the Punjab government to block the implementation of the central Acts by declaring the whole of the state a notified Mandi as Principal Market Area. “This is the only way to save Punjab farmers from this deadly trap laid by the center’s Acts. It is a shame that Rajasthan has already done it while the government of the country’s leading agricultural state, Punjab, is still refusing to do it.”
Mr Majithia said that the SAD would bring another motion to demand the abrogation of the APMC Act as implemented in Punjab by Amarinder. “The Congress government’s APMC Act is a ditto copy of the center’s anti-farmer Acts. Even if the center withdraws these Acts, these would still apply in Punjab because of the provisions of the APMC Act of the Amarinder government. This APMC has to be abrogated. Otherwise, even without center’s Acts, Punjab farmers are doomed.”
Commenting on Captain’s assurance to some farmers’ organizations on calling a Vidhan Sabha session, Mr Majithia said that this again was a loud example of Captain’s hypocrisy. “He didn’t call the Session even as farmers had been demanding it, braving heat and dust under a scorching sun for over a month. But today Madam Sonia Gandhi enacted the drama of asking Congress governments to call sessions to reject the Bills. Within hours, Captain declared “Yes Madam.” And typical of his hypocrisy, he made the farmer organizations believe that he was doing it at their behest. I hope the simple-hearted farmers can see through Captain’s hypocrisy.”
Mr Majtihia said that the people of the country “saw how the Congress party tried to befool the farmers by enacting the drama of burning the same tractor twice. It was actually a tractor purchased by Congress leaders through a panic sale by a poor farmer. They enacted the “fire” drama first in Ambala and later, carried the same tractor in a truck to Delhi to burn it again. This is a loud of example of how the Congress befools the farmers.” EOM
