JALANDHAR PROVIDES FUNCTIONAL TAP WATER CONNECTIONS TO 1.77 LAKH HOUSEHOLDS
Jalandhar, September 28 (wishavwarta):- Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori on Monday directed the officials of water supply and sanitation to ensure tap water connections to all 2.32 lakh households in Jalandhar by the end of October this year.
Presiding over a meeting held under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) with the officials in the district administrative complex, the Deputy Commissioner said the district administration has already functional tap water connections to 1.77 lakh households in Jalandhar.
He said that the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, is committed to achieve universal coverage of 100% rural households with Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) at an accelerated pace by March 2022.
Ghanshyam Thori asked the executive engineers and Junior Engineers and others of the Water Supply and Sanitation Department to leave no stone unturned to cover all remaining rural households in next month so that district administration can ensure the potable water service delivery in adequate quantity to all households.
He further told them to hold meetings with the remaining panchayats’ heads and expedite the ongoing works to benefit the rural population mostly from the poor section of the society.
He said that under Jal Jeevan Mission, the local panchayat is being involved in planning, implementation, management, operation and maintenance of water supply systems in villages for achieving drinking water to all households in the rural areas.
Deputy Commissioner further said focus is also being laid on rain water harvesting, ground water recharge and management of household wastewater for reuse in agriculture.
On the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal, Executive Engineers Sukhdeep Singh, Vijay Kumar and others were present.
