Chandigarh, 20 September(Wishav Warta): The Health and Family Welfare Department, Punjab has been successful in immunizing 8,85,312 children of migratory labourers under Sub National Polio campaign, which was run in the state from September 17 to 19, 2017.
Disclosing this official spokesperson of the Health and Family Welfare Department said that this Sub National Polio campaign was exclusively executed targeting the migratory population. He said that during this campaign children dwelling at the temporary accommodations at Brick Klins, Construction Sites and at other slum areas were targeted and were immunized from polio. He said that the children of the age ranging from 0 to 5 were the targeted population for this campaign.
The spokesperson said that before the commencement of this 3 days campaign a micro plan to cover the migratory population residing in villages, cities and other construction sites was prepared. He said that Punjab being the border state which shares border with Pakistan, has to be extra vigilant and has to put extra efforts as compare to other states because the neighboring country Pakistan has still not been declared Polio Free.
He further said that in Punjab among the total children count 20% children belong to migratory population. He said that to execute this campaign 16,000 employees, 800 supervisors, 8000 vaccinator teams and at state level 15 teams were deployed. He said that in Ludhiana this campaign would be extended for two more days as the count of migratory population in the city is quite large.
