Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leadership has held the erstwhile SAD-BJP alliance and the ruling Congress Government in Punjab for derailing the education system in the state.
In a statement issued from party head quarter in Chandigarh here on Monday, Core committee chairman and MLA Principal Budh Ram and Bibi Sarabjit Kaur Manuke Deputy LOP said the subsequent governments ruling the state had been responsible for the sorry state of affairs in the education system in the state. He said today a student doesn’t feel like going to government run school to pursue education for many reasons than one.
Budh Ram alleged that due to ill-conceived policies of the governments holding the fort from time to time had virtually derailed the system, he said. He added that no recruitments were made in government colleges since 1996. The figures available reveal that in 49 government colleges in Punjab only 512 college teachers as against total available posts of 1872 were working against permanent posts. The remaining posts had not been filled since. This has told upon the quality of education being imparted in these temples of learning.
Bibi Sarabjit Kaur Manuke Deputy LOP said that for derailing the education system, government in power is solely be held responsible. This is being done under a well planned program to give the reigns of the education to private players. She further said that government’s not allocating funds for the government colleges and the lack of adequate facilities made available there were being done under a planned manner to derail the system.
She demanded that the state government should initiate steps without further loss of time to check further derailment of the education juggernaut in Punjab thus depriving a vast majority of students of the right to education.
