Chandigarh: Sukhpal Singh Khaira MLA and president of Punjabi Ekta Party(PEP) today sought an explanation from Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on the allegations leveled by ruling party MLA Kulbir Singh Zira that drugs are freely available in state and drug mafia enjoy the police protection.
In a statement here Khaira said that MLA from Zira constituency has made serious allegations from a public platform at the time of administering oath to Sarpanchs and Panchs in the presence of Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal and senior police officers. Zira had clearly blamed the police for sheltering drug mafia and deflated the false propaganda by Capt Amarinder Singh that he had eliminated drugs from Punjab.
Khaira said that it was very serious issue that Kulbir Singh Zira has named Inspector General of Police who is hand in glove with the drug mafia and accepting bribes from drug smugglers. The Congress MLA has directly raised accusing finger on political police and political establishment. The said IG was handpicked by Capt Amarinder Singh to post him in Ferozepur police range.
Khaira said that it was matter of common knowledge that drugs were easily available in all parts of state and Zira is not an exception. He said that not only police but drug mafia also enjoy political protection. He stated that the nexus between drug mafia-police and politicians earlier patronised by Sukhbir Singh Badal and Bikram Singh Majithia is now flourishing under Congress regime. He told Capt Amarinder Singh to stop lying on the issue and come clean.
He reminded Capt Amarinder Singh of his oath taken with ‘Gutka Sahib’ in hand at Talwandi Sabo where he pledged to break the back of drug mafia with in a month. Now after one and half year of Congress government, the drug problem has become rather larger, he added..
PEP president said that Zira was second MLA of the ruling party who has raised the issue of open sale of drugs. Earlier Surjit Singh Dhiman MLA from Amargarh had at a function in Sangrur on the martyrdom day of Shaheed Udham Singh had alleged that ‘Chitta’ (Synthetic drug) was being sold in streets and drugs are freely available.
He said that Capt Amarinder Singh had snubbed Dhiman for going in public on drug issue. He added that Zira has endorsed the allegations of Dhiman and also vindicated similar allegations by opposition parties. In the recently concluded Panchayat elections, free flow of drugs, money and liquor was an example of brazen lies of Capt Amarinder Singh who seems working to cover up misdeeds of Congress leaders and police officers involved in drug mafia.
Khaira demanded that a high level judicial probe by sitting judge of High Court into the synthetic drug racket so that black sheep in Police and government be identified and punished. He also demanded that the list of tainted political leaders involved in drug trade handed over by former ADGP Shashi Kant to former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal be made public. The SAD-BJP government had hushed up the matter to protect political leaders hailing from both SAD and Congress, named in the report.
Khaira also alleged that besides drugs, the mining mafia and transport mafia were also going strong under the Congress rule. He said that Badal family which controls majority of transport business in state rule the roost and influencing policy decisions of Captain Government.
