Chandigarh: Hinting out an alleged conspiracy to inflict atrocities on the Scheduled Castes community, Paramjit Singh Kainth, President of the National Scheduled Castes Alliance, an organization advocating for the welfare and restitution of rights for the Scheduled Castes community, pointed out the inefficiency of the State Government led by Captain Amarinder Singh to tackle with the rising instances of social boycott and caste based discrimination going in the State and the number of cases each day is rising rapidly.
Kainth said, “During the recent Panchayati Elections there was a flurry of incidents involving violence, assault, social boycott and discrimination on persons belonging to the Scheduled Castes community across different villages of the State. Among many other incidents across the State, in Village Dera Meer Meeran and Pavala in District Fatehgarh Sahib, members of the Scheduled Castes community were subjected to extreme social boycott and were humiliated by people shouting slurs, insulting them for being a scheduled Caste. “
“There is a constant sense of fear and insecurity in the minds of the Scheduled Caste community regarding the resolve of the State Government to tackle with such menacing acts of discrimination being met with by the Scheduled Castes of the State. The bureaucracy is working like a puppet with the political class being the puppeteer. Police are under the control of the rich and the powerful and the opposition parties are inconsiderate to say the least. There is no regard for law & order and the poor families subjected to such discrimination and social boycott have to sit hopelessly waiting for justice to knock on their door.”
National Scheduled Castes Alliance, members of which have been sitting at a symbolic hunger strike since 21st December, 2018 demanded that the State government should wake up and tackle with this menace before it turns into a cancer for the society. “15th day of the hunger strike is underway and so far there has been no action against the accused by the State government. Victim families of 2 Villages in CM’s home district, belonging to Scheduled Castes community are sitting in this cold harsh winter waiting for justice against the accused who with the help of their political connections have forced these families to leave their villages and live like refugees at Sector 25 Rally Ground, Chandigarh. Captain Amrinder should take notice of this and take action immediately otherwise the rising counts of atrocities on the Scheduled Castes community would further increase the intensity of protests like this.”
