Rana Sodhi visits PGI to enquire after health of Balbir Singh Senior


Chandigarh: The Sports Minister, Punjab, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi today visited PGI to enquire after the health of legendary Hockey player Balbir Singh Senior. The minister ascertained information about the medical condition of Balbir Singh Senior from the doctors and assured every assistance to his family on behalf of the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh while meeting his grandson Kabir Singh. The minister prayed to the almighty for the speedy recovery of the Olympian. He was also accompanied by Hockey Olympian Baldev Singh and Ajit Singh besides folk singer Hardeep Singh who also enquired after well being of the Olympian at Nehru Hospital’s ICU.

In a press communiqué here today, Rana Sodhi said that the triple Olympic Gold medal winner (in London-1948, Helsinki-1952 and Melbourne-1956) Balbir Singh Senior is undergoing treatment at the PGI on account of illhealth. He divulged that as per the doctors, the condition of the Olympian Balbir Singh Senior is critical but under control. The minister further said that the players are made of stronger stuff and he is hopeful that Balbir Singh Senior too would fully recover soon.

The minister further disclosed that he would be in regular touch with the family of the legendary Olympian to enquire about his condition. He also said that the players are treasure of the society and an atmosphere most conducive to sports would be created in the State under the guidance of such legends. On the occasion, Assistant Director, Sports Department, Punjab, Kartar Singh Sehamby and Spokesperson of the Punjab Congress Rimple Middha were also present.
