Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court here on Saturday allowed Shiromani Akali Dal to hold a Pol Khol Rally in Faridkot on September 16. The court has also ordered the state government to ensure proper security arrangements.
A petition was filed against Punjab government in Punjab and Haryana High Court by senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Daljit Singh Cheema after Congress government on Friday denied permission to SAD for holding a rally in Faridkot. Later in the day, Akali Dal moved to high court seeking permission to hold the Pol Khol rally.
“it is “a brazen and cowardly abdication of constitutional responsibility by the state government whose primary duty is to ensure that no one is allowed to sabotage and disrupt peaceful expression of democratic aspirations of the people and to ensure and safeguard normal democratic activity in the state. The Government has virtually admitted today that the constitutional machinery in Punjab has broken down so much that it cannot even ensure a peaceful democratic rally by a mainstream political party,” said former CM Parkash Singh Badal.
