• Dry ration over Rs 80 lac provided to 17564 families
• Cooked meals twice a day served to 7675 families in six days
SAS Nagar, April 1( Wishavwarta)-The government efforts complemented by the philanthropists has helped the District Administration to provide succor to over twenty –five thousand families who would otherwise have been left high and dry in wake of the nation-wide lockdown to contain spread of COVID-19 , said Girish Dayalan, Deputy Commissioner SAS Nagar.
He said that with the active support of various NGOs, Gurudwaras, Red Cross, local politicians and volunteers from the civil society, the District Administration SAS Nagar has provided dry ration to 17564 needy families including 8800 in Mohali, 3268 in Dera Bassi and 5496 in Khara sub-division of the district. Assuming the average family size to be of four persons, this ration has provided relief to nearly seventy thousand people. About Rs 87 lacs have been on providing dry ration in six days, said he.
Similarly, cooked meals are also being served since March 26 and by March 31, meals have been served twice a day to 36,4560 people belonging to 7675 families, he informed. This includes 111600 members of 2325 families in Mohali, 79680 members of 1660 families from Dera Bassi and 173280 members of 3690 families in Kharar. Approximately Rs. 70 lac have been spent on this endeavor, informed Dayalan.
“However, in order to minimize the social contact, the district administration would focus more on giving dry ration than cooked meals”, said Deputy Commissioner.
He reiterated that the district Administration is committed to ensure the availability of the food to all the needy and underprivileged especially the migrants in the city and no stone would be left unturned to ensure that they do not face any problem.
He thanked all the philanthropists for their support and added that those desirous of lending a helping hand in cash or kind can contact the district Red Cross for the same.
