Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today asked the Congress chief Minister Captain Amrinder Singh why he is giving clean chits to the perpetrators of 1984 Sikh massacre, especially the Gandhi family and putting into jails the Punjabis demanding action against the culprits of Sikh genocide, even as it accused the CM of keeping alive Congress tradition of patronizing the accused by shielding their statutes in the state.
In a statement here, the party MP and senior leader Prof. Prem Singh Chandumajra said that Punjab CM seemed desperate to coerce the Punjabis into following his political agenda of ‘save Gandhi family’ from the 1984 Sikh massacre case. “He jumped out of his indefinite slumber to protect the Gandhi family at once when sudden eruption of Punjabis anger resulted into incidents of smearing of the Rajiv Gandhi’s statues across the state as well as in the national capital” he added. He said that Captain Amrinder had even started threatening the Punjabis with dire consequences by equating these incidents of public outrage as acts aimed to vitiate the peace and communal harmony in the state. “By portraying the public outrage against the 1984 culprits as acts of vandalism, the CM is trying to throttle the voices seeking justice for the victims of 1984 genocide” he added.
Asking the Congress CM to explain why he was siding with killers by putting the people seeking justice for 1984 victims into jails, the SAD leader said that after 34 years, a ray of hope arises for the victim families who had been fighting tirelessly against the well connected and mighty culprits just to see them behind the bars. “Now you have exposed yourself by openly siding with the Gandhi family when you should have stood with 1984 victims in their hour of need. On one side, there are people demanding justice for the genocide victims and expressing their anger by smearing the statues of one of those killers who hatched the entire conspiracy of butchering the Sikh masses and on the other hand there are congress leaders who are conspicuously indulging in acts of washing the Rajiv Gandhi statue in milk to prove their loyalty towards the Gandhi family. “By putting those expressing anger of the Sikh Sangat into jails, Captain Amrinder has sent a clear message to the Punjabis that either join the group of Gandhi-worshippers or be ready to face a stern action as he would not spare anyone holding the Gandhi family guilty of any crime” he added.
Making a scathing attack on Captain Amrinder Singh for betraying the Sikh community by supporting the Gandhi family for their heinous crime against humanity merely to save his chair, Prof. Chandumajra said that the Delhi high court had made it clear while pronouncing its verdict against Sajjan Kumar in a 1984 Sikh massacre case that the accused were escaped from the justice for 34 long years because they were consistently patronized by the Congress party. “By even shielding the statues of the accused in Punjab, Captain Amrinder Singh wanted to remain in good looks of the Congress high command for maintaining this tradition of patronizing the accused of 1984 genocide” he added.
