Patiala: Former senior superintendent of police Surjit Singh Grewal will be presented before the court today as his 5 days police remand will finish. He was in vigilance bureau, Patiala custody on five days remand in the case registered against him for amassing wealth worth several crores of rupees, which was disproportionate to his known sources of income.

As per the challan filed by the VB, during his postings as SSP Moga and SSP Fazilka from 2005 to 2014, Grewal had amassed wealth that was disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The VB report had stated that during this period he indulged in massive corruption to amass black money and parked this ill-gotten money in moveable and immovable assets. The VB report says that the accused police officer bought ‘benami’ land at different places across the state besides investing the money in fixed deposits (FD‘s) worth around Rs 25-30 crores. A search of bank lockers of held by him and his family members also led to the recovered of around 40 Kg of gold and Jewellery, which the VB claimed had been purchased with the black money collected by the former cop through illegal means.
