Jalandhar(Wishav Warta): Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma today said that the district administration was fully committed for conducting the ensuing elections for Municipal Corporation and five Municipal Committees of Jalandhar in a free and fair manner.
Presiding over a meeting with the representatives of political parties and Election Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Election Registration Officers (AEROs) here today in District Administrative Complex, the Deputy Commissioner said that the administration was duty bound to ensure that the polls were conducted efficiently, fair and in a transparent manner. He said that the State Election Commission (SEC) has issued the notification for preparation/ revision of electoral rolls w.e.f January1, 2017 as the qualifying date on the basis of Punjab Vidhan Sabha voter list 2017 for holding these elections. Sharma said that the draft of these electoral rolls would be provided to the political parties by today evening.
The Deputy Commissioner said that electoral Rolls would be prepared on the basis of latest Punjab Vidhan Sabha voter list from November 11, 2017 to November 13, 2017 and on November 14, 2017 publication of electoral Rolls would be drafted. Sharma further said that last date for filing claims and objections was November 20, 2017 adding that the claims and objections would be disposed off by November 27, 2017 and the final Electoral rolls would be published on November 28, 2017.
Meanwhile dwelling on another issue, the Deputy Commissioner further said that as per the schedule of Election Commission of India for special summary revision of Photo electoral roll for Lok Sabha/ Vidhan Sabha assembly segments for the left out eligible voters, the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have started door to door survey from today (November 15). He said that Booth Level Officers would go door to door from November 15 -30 during a special drive to collect information of the eligible voters in format I to VIII regarding enrolled voters, NRI voters and information regarding the youngsters who would be attaining the age of 18 years as on January 1, 2018. He further said that Booth level Officer would pronounce the relevant part of electoral roll on November 18, 2017(Saturday) and November 25, 2017 (Saturday) at the polling station.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the claims and objections for the draft publication of rolls could be filed from November 15 to December 14 at the concerned polling booths or the offices of the Registration Officers/ Assistant Registration Officers. Sharma said that on November 19 and November 26 (both Sunday) special camps for booth level agents of political parties would be organized for receiving claims and objections.
