Jalandhar: The Jalandhar district would hold the Punjab State Games for Boys (under 17) being organized by the Department of Sports, Government of Punjab, from November 20-22.
Divulging the details, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma today said that these games would be held at the local Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium. He said that in these games competitions would be held for boys under various sports including Athletics, Basketball, Hockey, Kabaddi, Handball, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Football, Volleyball and Judo. Sharma said that the games would be inaugurated on November 20 at 11 am and these would be concluded on November 22 at 3 pm.
The Deputy Commissioner said that more than 2200 players were expected to take part in this sports extravaganza. He said that elaborate arrangements would be made for the boarding and lodging facilities of the players besides making requisite preparations to ferry the players from venue of event to the place of accommodation. Likewise, Sharma said that adequate arrangements would also be made to ensure safety and security of the players besides providing them medical treatment during the event.
The Deputy Commissioner said that game could act as a catalyst in making Punjab a drug free state. He said that such events were very important to promote sportsman spirit amongst the youth besides channelizing their unbounded energy in a positive direction. Sharma said that such tournaments act as a grooming platform for the youth to bring laurels for the country and state by participating in national and international events.
