Kolkata: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee dharna entered the second day in the heart of Kolkata on Monday. The dharna was started on Sunday to protest the move of the CBI to question Kolkata Police commissioner Rajeev Kumar as she accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah of plotting a ‘coup’.
She said on Monday she will continue her “Satyagraha” till the country and its Constitution are “saved”.
The Chief Minister skipped meals and remained awake the entire night on a makeshift dais here along with some senior ministers and party members.
“This is a Satyagraha and I’ll continue till the country is saved,” said Banerjee.
A huge shutdown was witnessed between the West Bengal police and officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation on Sunday evening as the CBI officers detained by local police when they came to question Kolkata police chief Rajeev Kumar over two Ponzi schemes.
Many Opposition leaders have also spoken out in support of Banerjee. Congress chief Rahul Gandhi had also extended his support for Banerjee. RJD chief Tejashwi Yadav said the state government had to take the move due to “political decisions” the CBI had been taking at the BJP’s behest. He also said he may visit Kolkata today.
