Chandigarh: Sowing of Wheat crop is in full swing in Punjab. Out of 85 lac acres of area which is to be covered under wheat crop, 55 lac acres have already been sown, which is 4% more as compared to sowing last year as on till date.
Disclosing this here today Director Agriculture Jasbir Singh Bains stated that 11844 direct wheat sowing machines had been provided to the farmers on 50% to 80% subsidy, which could sow the wheat crop without tilling. The farmers are taking full advantage of these machines.
He stated that in all 25922 crop residue management machines have been given to the farmers on subsidy during last two months and with the use of these machines farmers would not only save time but also money in sowing the wheat crop. With timely sowing of wheat crop, its productivity is also expected to be higher in this season, he added.
