New Delhi: Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) has challenged the Delhi High Court verdict in Supreme Court over closing the 12-year old case of Bofors gun deal payoff. Top investigation agency moved to the apex body today.
A bench headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra is hearing the case on a plea filed by BJP leader Ajay Aggarwal. The BJP’s Aggarwal had filed the plea in his personal capacity, against a Delhi high court order of 2005 quashing charges against the Hinduja brothers in the Bofors pay-off case.
CBI officials had on Tuesday told a parliamentary panel looking into the Bofors deal that they have enough evidence to file a special leave petition (SLP) before the Supreme Court in a case pertaining to the defence deal.
Attorney General K K Venugopal reportedly gave permission orally to the CBI to file the appeal, after it earlier advised the government that the investigating agency should not file an SLP in the case related to the Bofors gun deal payoff as it is likely to be dismissed.
