New Delhi: Prashant Patel is the man who started this all three years ago, a young advocate in Delhi awaited the result of his two-page complaint sent to the President. The Election Commission(EC) on Friday ended Prashant Patel’s wait and recommended that the President disqualify 20 MLAs from the Aam Aadmi Party for holding an office of profit as parliamentary secretaries.
The Election Commission gave its opinion to President Ram Nath Kovind on a complaint by advocate Prashant Patel, a member of the Hindu Legal Cell, in June 2015, who petitioned then President Pranab Mukherjee alleging illegality in the appointment of Parliamentary Secretaries. In the past, Patel, 30, filed an FIR against actor Aamir Khan and director Rajkumar Hirani for allegedly portraying gods in a poor light in the film ‘PK’.
Hailing from Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur district, Patel is also known for filing a complaint against former Censor Board chief Leela Samson for alleged corruption.
He was a student of Physics and Creative Designing at a Christian college affiliated to the Allahabad University before pursuing law. He did his LLB from Chaudhry Charan Singh University in Greater Noida.
Later, the young lawyer shifted to Delhi and started doing family and criminal cases.
Responding to the day’s developments, Patel expressed satisfaction. “This will restore public faith in the constitutional authorities and a message has gone now that politicians doing illegal acts won’t be spared,”. He added that “First of all, the Delhi HC has no locus as the EC has only answered a reference to the President. Do the MLA’s want HC to stay such a communication? The problem is AAP doesn’t believe in any Constitution, high court or Supreme Court. If the President disqualifies them, they will abuse him also.”
