Jalandhar, January 12: Reiterating the firm commitment of Congress party for empowering the women in the country, Irrigation and Power Minister Rana Gurjeet Singh today said that introduction of 50% reservation to ladies in civic bodies was a step towards this direction.
Addressing the gathering during celebration of ‘Dhian Di Lohri’ at Prem Chand Markanda SD College here today, the Minister said that the state government led by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has taken this decision to ensure more participation of women in political field. He said that more such initiatives would be taken in coming timing to ensure the overall development of women on one hand and making them partners in socio-economic development of the society on the other. Rana Gurjeet Singh exhorted the students present on the occasion to equip themselves with quality education and high moral values, as these were the real keys for women empowerment.
Rana Gurjeet Singh further said that it was the need of the hour educate and empower the girls for making India a front ranking country in the world. He said that ‘Dhian Di Lohri’ was a great endeavor, which could play an important role transforming the destiny of girl child in the society. Rana Gurjeet Singh also underlined the need for such sustainable efforts throughout the year for disseminating its message in a far more effective manner.
The Minister said that such functions were in line with the path shown by the great Sikh Gurus, who taught us to give respect to lady, which gives birth to the Kings and Royals. He said that today girls were leading in every sphere whether it was academics, sports or other. Rana Gurjeet Singh congratulated the organizers, college management and others for taking this noble initiative.
On the occasion, the Minister also felicitated key women/ girls achievers of the district.
