Amritsar, January 12: Bhartiya Janata Party state executive member Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina today hailed the decision of the Supreme Court to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) for investigations into 186 cases related to 1984 anti-Sikh riots. He said the victims of the riots have not got justice even after so many years of the carnage which witnessed the massacre of the Sikhs in various cities of India
The Congress governments were in rule for most of the time after the tragedy but no justice has been meted out to the victims. It was during the last NDA regime under former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee that Nanawati Commission was constituted in 2000 to probe the matter. And now it during the Modi government that the serious efforts are being made to investigate the issues’’, said Chhina.
He said there is a ray of hope for the victim families that the perpetrators of the violence would be behind bars even if they hold prominent places in the politics and administration. The Sikh community had been waiting for the justice for so many years. The previous UPA government miserably failed to put balm on the wounds of the victims’’, said he.
He expected that the SIT under Justice SN Dhingra would bring the culprits to the justice so that such a one sided carnage never take place in the country.
