Jalandhar, January 2(Parteek Singh): Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) legislator from Adampur, Pawan Kumar Tinu raises the issue of overloaded tippers with sand. The leader wakes up after SAD gets out of the power in the state. The overloading issue is not new as many persons have lost their lives after getting crushed under overloaded tippers in past years. The leader says 60 percent trucks belong to police and transport officials. Demands Vigilance or CBI inquiry in this matter.
During a press conference, he said overloaded tippers have killed many people in past years and the number of accidents has increased from last few months. He said last week he stopped overloaded tippers on two occasions. ‘I saw a tipper tilted to one side when it passed the police post they let it go, I came to know that tipper was owned by a police officer’ he said. The incident is of December 27 when Tinu stopped a tipper and checked its papers. He said the tipper was weighing 55 tonnes when the maximum 25 tonnes load is allowed. But there was no action taken by the police, the vehicle was not impounded.
On 31 December he noticed one more overloaded tipper again it was not stopped by police at PAP check post. Tinu said when he stopped the tipper driver was not even having a license and load was 60 tonnes. The same truck he stopped on 27 December also came after some time.
Tinu said one family from Phagwara died last year and a 20-year-old was crushed to death but police is not doing anything. Police can impound vehicles under motor vehicle act but they do nothing under political pressure. Illegal mining is going on in the state and overloaded tippers are running freely. He said he will raise this issue in the assembly’ I will not let it go until the government takes any action.
He said Police Commissioner warns me for stopping tippers, he is backed by Congress government. The situation has gone worse. He rubbishes Commissioners claims of interrupting traffic. He said he stopped the tipper in the best way that CP might have not.
